The first National Health Week was officially launched this morning, where the main focus is the administration of the bivalent oral vaccine against Sabin-type poliomyelitis to girls and boys from 6 months to 4 years 9 months old.
In his speech at the inauguration, the Head of the Eighth Health Region, Jaime Álvarez Zayas mentioned that the last case of polio in our country was in the municipality of Tomatlan in the year 1990, and indicated the importance of the administration of the vaccine.
“There are still cases of polio in the world, but in Mexico it has been eradicated. We can have cases of polio coming from other countries, however, we are protected with vaccines “said Alvarez Zayas.
During this first week, 17 thousand doses will be administrated in the region: Tomatlan, Cabo Corrientes, Puerto Vallarta, San Sebastian del Oeste, Mascota and Talpa de Allende.
The basic actions to be carried out this week are:
- Reinforce permanent vaccination: complete the basic schemes (BCG, Pentavalent, Hepatitis B, triple viral, rotavirus, pneumococcal, administration of DPT reinforcements (to the population that demonstrates having received the second booster dose).
- Provide protection against neonatal tetanus in pregnant women by administering a dose of Td or Tdpa, according to the guidelines for the administration of the TDPA vaccine in pregnancy.
- Distribution of Oral Saline Solution to mothers responsible for children under 5 years of age.
