Puerto Vallarta will become a “hub” or anchor point for international and national line cruisers, which will soon have the Marias Islands as a new point of interest for stopover. This was mentioned by the delegate of the Tourism Secretariat of Jalisco.
“We are trying to attract many more cruises that stay overnight, we are the second most important cruise destination in the country. In addition to the project that the federal government is doing with the Islas Marías, what we want to do is to turn Vallarta into the most important cruise hub in the country, “he said.
Puerto Vallarta will become a starting point for cruises that travel to the Marías Islands, but also to the south of the country, to the north and the Mexican Pacific coast and even other countries. It´s a goal that the Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco has.
“We want Vallarta to be an extremely important point to go to the Sea of Cortez, Los Cabos, Baja California and Islas Marias, and even to southern Mexico and the continent,” said SECTUR Jalisco delegate Susana Rodríguez Mejía.
More arrivals and shipping promotion
The state official also revealed that Puerto Vallarta will participate in a joint stand with the other destinations of the Mexican Pacific in the Seatrade Global Cruise from April 8 to 11, an international event that brings together 11,000 professionals from the shipping industry and cruises companies, such as Carnival Celibrity, Disney, Norwegan, Hollity, Prince, Seas, Royal Caribbean, Windstar, Cruise and Maritime Voyages.
This forum will take place in Miami, Florida, United States, and Puerto Vallarta will seek to arrange the arrival of more international cruises to the marine terminal. Meanwhile, Susana Rodríguez Mejía said that in 2018 closed there were 137 arrivals and a total of 360,000 passengers, 7% more than in 2017. But for 2019, the goal is 170 arrivals and 435 thousand tourists arriving by boat.
