Puerto Vallarta, Jal. – 29 families from indigenous communities participated in the ‘Unique and Diverse’ Indigenous Peoples Festival, organized by the DIF System, that chairs Candelaria Tovar de Dávalos. And also organized by the University Center of the Coast (CUCosta), where the gastronomy, crafts, beliefs and characteristics of the different ethnic groups were shown.
During the closing ceremony, the first lady stressed the importance of society reflecting and being aware of the value that indigenous communities have, since they are part of our history as a country
“I thank and acknowledge the University Center of the Coast, for opening these spaces to represent the diverse indigenous ethnic groups that inhabit this city. So that they can exhibit their work and transmit their customs and traditions. I want to congratulate the students and teachers, who gave themselves the opportunity to visit this artisanal and gastronomic sample and participated in the workshops and conferences” said Candelaria Tovar.
He also called on the indigenous community to continue working as a team, together with the coordination of Indigenous Groups of the DIF System, so that more places are provided to exhibit their work and activities.
On behalf of the indigenous families that participated in this Festival of Native People, Rosa Zetina, from the Otomi community, thanked the authorities for making this festival possible and for the support provided. “Thanks to the president, Candelaria, to the director of the DIF, Brenda, to the University Center of the Coast, for giving us permission to participate in this show, sell our crafts and typical food; it helps us to have resources for our families” he said.
It should be noted that in the closing ceremony of this festival, the Voladores de Papantla offered a show and the Mujeres Triquis, delighted the people with dances, to the rhythm of the songs “Tomate Verde” and “Tortolita”.
